Apple Turnovers Recipe


    For the Filling:

    • 4 large apples, peeled, cored, and diced
    • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
    • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
    • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
    • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
    • 1/4 cup unsalted butter

    For the Pastry:

    2 sheets puff pastry, thawed if frozen

    Flour for dusting

    For Assembly:

    1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

    Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)


    Prepare the Filling:

    In a large bowl, combine the diced apples, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, flour, and lemon juice. Toss until the apples are evenly coated.

    Cook the Filling:

    In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the apple mixture and cook for 8-10 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the mixture has thickened. Remove from heat and let it cool.

    Preheat the Oven:

    Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

    Prepare the Pastry:

    On a lightly floured surface, roll out each sheet of puff pastry to a 12×12 inch (30×30 cm) square. Cut each square into four smaller squares.

    Fill the Turnovers:

    Spoon a generous amount of the cooled apple filling into the center of each pastry square. Fold the pastry over the filling to create a triangle and seal the edges by pressing with a fork.

    Brush with Egg Wash:

    Place the turnovers on the prepared baking sheet. Brush the top of each turnover with beaten egg to give them a golden color when baked.


    Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until the turnovers are golden brown and puffed up.

    Cool and Serve:

    Allow the turnovers to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack. Once cooled, you can dust them with powdered sugar if desired.
