Easy Buttermilk Biscuit Recipe


    • 2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 tablespoon baking powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
    • 1 teaspoon sugar
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small cubes
    • 3/4 cup buttermilk, cold


    Preheat the Oven:

    Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).

    Prepare Baking Sheet:

    Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it to prevent sticking.

    Combine Dry Ingredients:

    In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar, and salt.

    Add Cold Butter:

    Incorporate the cold, cubed butter into the dry ingredients.

    Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

    Pour in Buttermilk:

    Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the cold buttermilk.

    Gently stir until just combined. Do not overmix; the dough should be slightly sticky.

    Knead the Dough:

    Turn the dough out onto a floured surface.

    Gently knead it a few times, incorporating a bit more flour if needed to prevent sticking.

    Roll and Cut:

    Roll the dough out to about 1/2-inch thickness.

    Use a round biscuit cutter to cut out biscuits, placing them close together on the prepared baking sheet.


    Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until the biscuits are golden brown on top.

    Optional: Brush with Butter (Optional):

    For an extra golden finish, melt a bit of butter and brush the tops of the biscuits as soon as they come out of the oven.

    Serve Warm:

    Allow the biscuits to cool for a few minutes before serving.

    Enjoy them warm with butter, jam, or as desired.
