Ginger and pear buttermilk scones recipe

    • 2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
    • 1 tablespoon baking powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
    • 1/2 cup buttermilk, cold
    • 1 large egg
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
    • 1 cup ripe pear, peeled and diced
    • 1/4 cup crystallized ginger, finely chopped

    1 cup powdered sugar

    2 tablespoons buttermilk

    1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

    Preheat the Oven:

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

    Prepare the Dry Ingredients:

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and ground ginger.

    Cut in the Butter:

Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients. Use a pastry cutter or your fingertips to cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.

    Combine Wet Ingredients:

In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, egg, and vanilla extract. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently mix until just combined.

    Add Pears and Ginger:

Fold in the diced pears and crystallized ginger into the scone dough. Be careful not to overmix.

    Shape the Dough:

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times until it comes together. Pat the dough into a circle about 1 inch thick.

    Cut into Wedges:

Using a floured knife, cut the dough into 8 wedges and place them on the prepared baking sheet.

Bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes, or until the scones are golden brown on top.

    Make the Glaze:

While the scones are baking, prepare the glaze by whisking together powdered sugar, buttermilk, and vanilla extract until smooth.

    Glaze the Scones:

Once the scones are out of the oven and slightly cooled, drizzle the glaze over the top of each scone.

    Serve and Enjoy:

Allow the glaze to set for a few minutes before serving. These scones are best enjoyed warm with a cup of tea or coffee.

These Ginger and Pear Buttermilk Scones are a delightful combination of sweet pears and the warmth of ginger, making them perfect for a cozy breakfast or afternoon tea. Enjoy!
