Gooey Butter Cake Recipe

    For the Cake Base:

    • 1 box (18.25 ounces) yellow cake mix
    • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
    • 1 large egg

    For the Gooey Butter Topping:

    • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
    • 2 large eggs
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
    • 4 cups powdered sugar
    • Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)

    Preheat the Oven:

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan and set aside.

    Prepare the Cake Base:

In a large mixing bowl, combine the yellow cake mix, melted butter, and 1 egg. Mix until well combined.

Press the mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking pan.

    Make the Gooey Butter Topping:

In another mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth.

Add the eggs, vanilla extract, and melted butter to the cream cheese, and beat until well combined.

Gradually add the powdered sugar, beating continuously until the mixture is smooth and creamy.

    Assemble the Cake:

Pour the gooey butter mixture over the cake base in the baking pan, spreading it evenly.

Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes or until the edges are golden brown and the center is slightly gooey.

    Cool and Serve:

Allow the gooey butter cake to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.

Once cooled, you can dust the top with powdered sugar if desired.

Cut into squares and serve. This cake is delicious on its own or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Enjoy your homemade Gooey Butter Cake!
