- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1/4 cup dry milk
- 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter (make sure it doesn’t contain xylitol, as it’s toxic to dogs)
- 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 1/4 cup water
Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, rolled oats, and dry milk. Mix well.
In a separate microwave-safe bowl, melt the peanut butter in short increments, stirring in between, until it becomes smooth and liquid.
Add the melted peanut butter, applesauce, and water to the dry ingredients. Mix thoroughly until you have a dough-like consistency. You may need to use your hands to knead the dough.
On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness.
Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes or simply use a knife to cut the dough into small squares.
Place the cutouts on the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between each treat.
Bake in the preheated oven for about 12-15 minutes or until the edges are golden brown. Keep an eye on them to prevent overcooking.
Allow the treats to cool completely on a wire rack.
Once cooled, store the homemade peanut butter dog treats in an airtight container at room temperature. You can also refrigerate them for longer shelf life.
Remember to check with your veterinarian if your dog has any specific dietary restrictions or allergies before introducing new treats into their diet. Enjoy making these tasty treats for your furry friend!
