Honey Bun Cake Recipe

    For the cake:

    • 1 box (about 15 ounces) yellow cake mix
    • 4 large eggs
    • 1 cup sour cream
    • 3/4 cup vegetable oil
    • 1 cup packed brown sugar
    • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
    • 1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

    For the glaze:

    • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
    • 1 cup powdered sugar
    • 2 tablespoons honey
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract


    Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking dish.

    In a large mixing bowl, combine the yellow cake mix, eggs, sour cream, and vegetable oil. Mix until well combined and smooth.

    In a separate bowl, mix together the brown sugar and ground cinnamon.

    Pour half of the cake batter into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.

    Sprinkle the brown sugar-cinnamon mixture over the batter in the baking dish. If desired, sprinkle chopped nuts over the cinnamon mixture.

    Pour the remaining cake batter over the cinnamon layer, spreading it to cover the cinnamon mixture.

    Use a knife or spatula to gently swirl the batter, creating a marbled effect.

    Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

    While the cake is baking, prepare the glaze. In a small saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Stir in the powdered sugar, honey, and vanilla extract until smooth.

    Once the cake is done baking, remove it from the oven and immediately pour the glaze over the hot cake, spreading it evenly.

    Allow the cake to cool for a bit before serving. Cut into squares and enjoy your delicious Honey Bun Cake!
