Marbled Heart Sugar Cookies Recipe


    • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
    • 1 cup granulated sugar
    • 1 large egg
    • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
    • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt
    • Red food coloring
    • Pink food coloring


    Preheat the Oven:

    Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.

    Cream the Butter and Sugar:

    In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

    Add Eggs and Extracts:

    Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract to the creamed butter and sugar mixture.

    Beat well until fully combined.

    Combine Dry Ingredients:

    In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and salt.

    Mix Wet and Dry Ingredients:

    Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms.

    Divide the Dough:

    Divide the cookie dough into three equal portions.

    Color the Dough:

    Leave one portion of the dough plain.

    Color the second portion with red food coloring and the third portion with pink food coloring.

    Knead the dough until the color is evenly distributed.

    Create Marbled Effect:

    Take small pieces of each colored dough and gently press them together. Do not overmix; you want a marbled effect.

    Form the marbled dough into a ball.

    Roll Out the Dough:

    Roll out the marbled dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness.

    Cut Out Heart Shapes:

    Use heart-shaped cookie cutters to cut out cookies from the rolled dough.

    Place the cut-out hearts on the prepared baking sheets, leaving some space between each.


    Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.

    Be careful not to overbake.


    Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

    Optional: Decorate:

    Once the cookies are completely cooled, you can decorate them with royal icing or sprinkles if desired.
