    For the Cake:

    • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
    • 1 cup granulated sugar
    • 3 large eggs
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 2 tablespoons lemon zest (from about 2 lemons)
    • 1/2 cup sour cream

    For the Lemon Syrup:

    • 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
    • 1/4 cup granulated sugar

    For the Lemon Glaze:

    • 1 cup powdered sugar
    • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice


    Preheat the Oven:

    Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5-inch loaf pan.

    Dry Ingredients:

    In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

    Cream Butter and Sugar:

    In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

    Add Eggs and Vanilla:

    Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

    Add Lemon Zest and Sour Cream:

    Mix in the lemon zest and sour cream until well combined.

    Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients:

    Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined. Be careful not to overmix.

    Pour Batter into Pan:

    Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan, spreading it evenly.


    Bake in the preheated oven for 45-55 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

    Make Lemon Syrup:

    While the cake is baking, make the lemon syrup. In a small saucepan, heat the lemon juice and sugar over medium heat until the sugar dissolves. Set aside.

    Apply Lemon Syrup:

    When the cake is done baking and still warm, poke several holes in the top with a toothpick or skewer. Pour the lemon syrup over the cake, allowing it to soak in.

    Make Lemon Glaze:

    In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar and fresh lemon juice to make the glaze.

    Apply Lemon Glaze:

    Once the cake has cooled slightly, drizzle the lemon glaze over the top.

    Cool and Serve:
