Traditional Baked Beans with Canned Beans Recipe

    Ingredients:

    • 2 cans (15 ounces each) of navy beans or any other canned beans (drained and rinsed)
    • 1/2 cup molasses
    • 1/3 cup brown sugar, packed
    • 1/4 cup ketchup
    • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
    • 1 small onion, finely chopped
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 4 slices of bacon, cooked and crumbled (optional)
    • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt
    • 1/4 teaspoon ground mustard (optional)
    • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
    • 1/4 cup water (if needed)

    Instructions:

    Preheat the Oven:

    Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C).

    Prepare the Beans:

    Drain and rinse the canned beans thoroughly.

    If you’re using bacon, cook it until crispy, then crumble it.

    Mix the Sauce:

    In a mixing bowl, combine molasses, brown sugar, ketchup, Dijon mustard, chopped onion, minced garlic, black pepper, salt, ground mustard (if using), and smoked paprika (if using). Mix well until the ingredients are thoroughly combined.

    Combine Beans and Sauce:

    Place the drained beans in a baking dish.

    Pour the sauce over the beans and stir to coat them evenly. If the mixture seems too thick, you can add 1/4 cup of water to reach the desired consistency.

    Add Bacon (Optional):

    If you’re using bacon, sprinkle the crumbled bacon over the top of the beans.

    Bake:

    Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for about 1 to 1.5 hours or until the beans are tender and the sauce has thickened.

    Check and Stir:

    Check the beans occasionally and stir gently. If the sauce seems too thick, you can add a bit more water.

    Serve:

    Once the beans are baked to perfection, remove them from the oven.

    Let them cool for a few minutes before serving.

    Enjoy:

    Serve the traditional baked beans as a side dish or as a main course. They pair well with grilled meats, hot dogs, or just some crusty bread.
