    For the Cake:

    • 1 cup all-purpose flour
    • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt
    • 5 large eggs, separated
    • 1 cup granulated sugar, divided
    • 1/3 cup whole milk
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Three Milk Mixture (Tres Leches):

    • 1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
    • 1 can (12 ounces) evaporated milk
    • 1 cup whole milk

    For the Whipped Cream Topping:

    • 2 cups heavy cream
    • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

    1. Preheat the Oven:

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking dish or cake pan.

    2. Prepare the Cake Batter:

In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

In a large mixing bowl, beat the egg yolks with 3/4 cup of granulated sugar until pale and fluffy. Stir in the milk and vanilla extract until well combined.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the egg yolk mixture, mixing until smooth.

    3. Whip the Egg Whites:

In a separate clean mixing bowl, beat the egg whites until soft peaks form. Gradually add the remaining 1/4 cup of granulated sugar and continue to beat until stiff peaks form.

    4. Fold in the Egg Whites:

Gently fold the whipped egg whites into the cake batter until just combined. Be careful not to deflate the mixture.

    5. Bake the Cake:

Pour the cake batter into the prepared baking dish and spread it out evenly.

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

    6. Prepare the Three Milk Mixture:

While the cake is baking, combine the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and whole milk in a large measuring cup or bowl. Stir until well combined.

    7. Soak the Cake:

Once the cake is done baking and still warm, use a fork or skewer to poke holes all over the surface of the cake.

Slowly pour the three milk mixture over the warm cake, making sure to evenly distribute it. Allow the cake to absorb the milk mixture for at least 30 minutes or up to 1 hour.

    8. Make the Whipped Cream Topping:

In a chilled mixing bowl, beat the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.

    9. Frost the Cake:

Once the cake has soaked up the milk mixture, spread the whipped cream topping evenly over the surface of the cake.

    10. Chill and Serve:

Cover the Tres Leches Cake and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight to allow the flavors to meld and the cake to set.

Before serving, slice the cake into squares and serve chilled. Enjoy the rich and creamy indulgence of this classic Tres Leches Cake!
