Vegan Falafel Burger Recipe


    For the Falafel Patties:

    • 2 cans (15 oz each) chickpeas, drained and rinsed
    • 1 small red onion, finely chopped
    • 3 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1 cup fresh parsley, chopped
    • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
    • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
    • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
    • Salt and pepper to taste
    • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour or chickpea flour
    • 2 tablespoons olive oil (for cooking)

    For the Tahini Sauce:

    • 1/2 cup tahini
    • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
    • 2 tablespoons water
    • 1 clove garlic, minced
    • Salt to taste

    For Assembling:

    • Whole wheat burger buns
    • Lettuce leaves
    • Sliced tomatoes
    • Sliced red onion
    • Pickles


    Prepare the Falafel Patties:

    a. In a food processor, combine chickpeas, red onion, garlic, parsley, cumin, coriander, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper. b. Pulse the mixture until well combined but still slightly chunky. c. Transfer the mixture to a bowl and stir in the flour until the mixture holds together. d. Form the mixture into patties, about 1/4 cup each.

    Cook the Falafel Patties:

    a. Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat. b. Cook the falafel patties for 4-5 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through. c. Place cooked patties on a paper towel to absorb any excess oil.

    Prepare the Tahini Sauce:

    a. In a small bowl, whisk together tahini, lemon juice, water, minced garlic, and salt until smooth. b. Adjust the consistency with more water if needed.

    Assemble the Vegan Falafel Burgers:

    a. Toast the whole wheat burger buns. b. Spread a generous amount of tahini sauce on the bottom half of each bun. c. Place a falafel patty on top of the sauce. d. Layer with lettuce, sliced tomatoes, red onion, and pickles. e. Top with the other half of the bun.
