Ingredients:
- 4 large apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 package refrigerated crescent roll dough (8 rolls)
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup apple cider or apple juice
Instructions:
Preparing the Apples:
Peel, core, and slice the apples into 8 equal wedges each.
In a bowl, combine granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg.
Toss the apple slices in the sugar and spice mixture until well coated. Set aside.
Assembling the Dumplings:
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
Unroll the crescent roll dough and separate it into 8 triangles.
Place one apple wedge at the wide end of each triangle and roll it up, sealing the edges to fully enclose the apple.
Creating the Sauce:
In a saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat.
Stir in brown sugar, vanilla extract, and apple cider or apple juice.
Bring the mixture to a simmer, stirring continuously until the sugar is completely dissolved.
Remove from heat.
Baking the Dumplings:
Grease a baking dish and arrange the assembled apple dumplings in it.
Pour the prepared sauce over the dumplings, ensuring they are well coated.
Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes or until the dumplings are golden brown and cooked through.
Serving:
Allow the apple dumplings to cool for a few minutes before serving.
Spoon some of the sauce from the baking dish over each serving.
Optionally, serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra indulgent treat.
Enjoy your delicious homemade apple dumplings!
